This year, the Budapest Klezmer Band (BKB) celebrates its twentieth anniversary. It has been widely acknowledged for its work and earned an international reputation. Through their performances, they have converted audience all over the world to Klezmer; it has brought down barriers between Jewish and non-Jewish, which is unprecedented these days. The secret of their popularity is that Ferenc Jávori reaches back to klezmer’s musical roots and respectfully retains traditions while creating his ow...n style. The BKB created Purim jointly with the Győr Ballet the music for which was created by Fegya. (Dramaturg: Róbert Turán, based on the Book of Esther; choreographer: William Fomin.) After the international successes of Purim, director János Kiss was encouraged to create another klezmer work: Klezmer Dance Suite in which the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra play on the stage with the klezmer band.
