The stag is an ancient symbol – and his discarded and regrown antlers have come to represent eternal renovation. He is at once a demon, a wizard, a fairy and king of the dead, capable of drawing those who hunt him into a new and different world. As the hunters of the 21st century, striving to escape subjugation and find freedom, Stag Song conjures up a kind of mythical memory. The basic signals of this are encoded in music and the language of dance, and in lyrical phrases we search for the celes...tial equivalents of our earthly transformations and stories so that we can eventually enter our own divine space. It is through the formative power of dance, and the theatrical truth of its movements of life and death, that we commit ourselves to this sacred transubstantiation and the reinforcement that comes from true faith.
