The Message of Angels gives light and faith, showing the path leading to one another and helps us recognise what we have in common. Rimsky-Korsakov’s composition is one of the great works of genius in the ballet musical literature. The romantic world of Eastern melodies permeates the story that is filled with wildness and barbarism. The emotional beauty that radiates outwards, its eroticism and power always fascinate audiences. Iván Markó launched the work in the present, then returns to the past, to the world of fairy stories so that at the end, it can project the truth of the work upon our own times. A lonely woman returns from a ball and experiences Sheherezade’s amorous and dramatic story while in an alcoholic stupor. In her imagination, there appear two types of man, personified by a leader and a gold slave. One of them is characterised by power, riches and violence, the other by kindness, emotional maturity but also human servitude. Sheherezade longs for the freedom of love and not the cloistered harem. She incites her fellow women against tyranny, urging them to choose the completeness of happiness. The story reaches a dramatic end. Our heroine awakes from her dream and experiences the beauties and dangers of erotic desire.
