“La Vie en Rose” is a performance highlighted by the unfading and ever-so-bright chansons of Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud and Jacques Chevalier. The well-known and universally loved songs present these immortal chanteurs through the eyes of Jef — the tramp — at times with a nostalgic undertone, full of bitter-sweet melancholy, but not without self-irony. Jef sought and found refuge on the streets of Paris. The sight of the old accordionist was a familiar sight to passers-by. Big...-city life, however, has left him standing, passed him by and pushed him to the brink. Only in chansons does time stand still, because chansons are timeless. The music - through its intimacy - brings the past to life, the brightest stars of French song resurrect and bring long-forgotten characters and age-old sentiments to the stage.
