Bolero “Maurice Ravel’s Bolero is a musical tapestry of monumental strength and breadth. As the composer weaves – and setting off from a musical thread – the texture becomes increasingly dense and we find ourselves deeper in the labyrinth. It almost covers the entire space like a whirlwind, it swallows everything. A rite – to the rhythm of desire.” Attila Egerházi II Déjá vu Choreography: Peter Zuska Danced by: (Cast 1) - Linda Schneiderova, Viktor Svidró, (Cast 2) – Aleszja Popova, Viktor Svidró III. Carmen “The story of Carmen and Don José is about desire, jealousy, love, sin and revenge. When we set about staging the work which is always wonderful yet torturous work, I had to rethink just what the »puzzle« of Carmen, the Toreador, the lieutenant, Don José and Micaela meant for me. I discovered in each of their stories the manifestation of the unavoidable power of Destiny. Carmen, who before had only sensed love with the fire of her body, now encounters true feeling that overrides everything and she is scared of it. The Toreador sparkles like a modern day showman; he is all power and self-confidence – while his role lasts. In solitude and stripped of this role, he collapses. He does not know who he really is. Don José’s fate in Carmen sweeps him further down the unavoidable path. Micaela is not capable of breaking out of her allotted role as victim. On the surface, everything is colour, motion, and Southern life. But deep under the surface, Destiny marches on along its merciless path.” Attila Egerházi Further performances: Festival Theatre, 19.00 April 24, May 15
