Ballet Pécs celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation in 2010. With the support of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture programme, we have managed to invite the internationally acclaimed artist Cameron McMillan, who is creating a major stage choreography entitled In the Garden of Good and Evil especially for the company. Cameron McMillan is a principal dancer of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, a former member of the Rambert Dance Company, and currently a freelance artist and regular c...ollaborator in the projects of Rafael Bonachela. “As a point of departure for a large-scale dance work, the concept of the Seven Deadly Sins has interested me for quite some time. With their modern roots dating back as early as the 4th century, and most commonly associated with the Catholic Church, the sins and their teaching have played a recognisable part in the social policy of Western society for centuries. Dance is a powerful medium which can communicate the subtleties and complexities of the human condition. Using the language of dance, I want to use the individual essence of each of the seven vices to communicate a telling depiction of how these traditionally moralistic views can be present in today's society, and interpret them in a way that is relevant and receptible to today's audience. What I am preparing is a unique performance which will simultaneously appeal to dance enthusiasts who understand the finer points of the craft and to the broader public who wish to both understand the performance and to be entertained.” Cameron McMillan
