The Wagner in Budapest Festival began in 2006 with Parsifal, one of the most controversial and – for many – most brilliant works in operatic history. Since then, the festival has achieved worldwide fame and has become a red-letter fixture in the international music calendar. This staged performance of the three-act musical drama once again presents some of the most acclaimed interpreters of the opera’s roles. The Palace of Arts has invited Lauri Vasar, a superb Estonian baritone recognised throu...ghout Europe, to play the role of Amfortas, Finnish bass phenomenon Matti Salminen to sing Gurnemanz, and Hungarian bass star Kolos Kováts to play the role of Titurel. Already well known in Budapest, the wonderful Petra Lang sings the part of Kundry. The title role goes to Wagnerian star Christian Franz, while Hartmut Welker plays Klingsor. This grandiose opera conjuring up the legend of the Holy Grail will be conducted once again by Ádám Fischer at the head of the MR Symphony Orchestra. The production is brought to the stage by Magdolna Parditka and Alexandra Szemerédy, who have already collaborated on several productions in Salzburg. The performances also feature the National Choir (chorusmaster: Mátyás Antal), the MR Choir (chorusmaster: Csaba Somos) and the MR Children’s Choir (chief chorusmaster: Dr. László Matos, assistant chorusmaster: Sándor Kabdebó). Presented by: Palace of Arts
