Recent years have seen a good number of startlingly talented and dedicated young Hungarian pianists embark on their careers. Any one of them may go on to become the next Zoltán Kocsis, Dezső Ránki or András Schiff. János Palojtay is no exception, even though he is still a student, currently furthering his education in Stuttgart under Kirill Gerstein. He graduated in 2011 from the Academy of Music in Budapest under András Kemenes, Rita Wagner, Péter Nagy, Gábor Csalog, Márta Gulyás and - at... the Mozarteum in Salzburg - Imre Rohmann. Although he won third prize at the Santander International Piano Competition in 2012, Palojtay's CV is conspicuously lacking in trophies. Describing himself as averse to competition, he prefers to express himself in concert. Rather than in superficial babble, his interest lies in the profundity of the listening experience. As early as the age of 21, he gave a solo recital at the Tiszadob Piano Festival in 2008, while in the spring of 2012 he played with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Christopher Hogwood.
A stage conversation under the title Preface will precede the concert from 6.30 pm, giving ticket holders the opportunity to better familiarise themselves with the musicians and the works they will perform.
