The European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) groups together 20 leading institutions including the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna, the Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne, L’Auditori in Barcelona, London’s Barbican Centre, the Megaron in Athens and Budapest’s Palace of Arts. Every year ECHO provides performance opportunities to six selected young musicians under the auspices of the Rising Stars programme, a concert series showcasing the stars of the future. The Austrian flautist Daniela ...Koch is among those chosen for the 2012/13 season. Still in her early twenties, Koch studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and has won first place or finished on the podium in numerous competitions, receiving special prizes on several occasions. She regards her victory in the Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan in 2009, in which she emerged first from 230 competitors, as the greatest success of her career so far. Despite her youth, Koch has already played on several continents as a scholarship holder with the Munich Philharmonic and as first flautist with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Vienna Philharmonic, and has worked with conductors including Christian Thielemann, Christoph Eschenbach, Paavo Järvi, Dennis Russell Davies and Ádám Fischer. She is rightly praised by critics for a light and elegant playing style unrestrained by any technical barriers.
