On the recommendation of the Hungarian Unesco Commission, 2011 has been declared international year of the composer Franz Liszt. The Szeged Contemporary Ballet celebrates the 200th anniversary of Liszt’s birth with a new ballet. “For a long time, I have been thinking of a Dante Symphony in three movements: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso – the first two for orchestra only, the last with a choir. If I come to visit you in autumn, I can probably bring it with me, and if you don’t think it is bad ...then, with your permission, I will dedicate it to you,” wrote Liszt to Richard Wagner. However, Wagner dissuaded him from putting Paradiso to music, and instead the Dante Symphony is closed by a Magnificat for female choir. Presented by: National Dance Theatre
