At the first concert in a series presenting the great epochal changes in the history of music, we visit Florence, where, during a series of friendly gatherings of erudite gentlemen at the end of the 1500s, a new dramatic genre was created placing the text at its centre and built on a solo singing part with simple chord accompaniment, which would later come to be known in Europe as opera. This time marked not only the birth of a new genre, but the beginning of a whole new era: the genesis of the ...Baroque era in music. This concert presents the events in Florence and the debate that arose over the new musical style, as well as providing examples of the Baroque style itself. Ages: 10–14 years Presented by: Palace of Arts
