““Should we love him? We should get to know him more closely as he improves our mood and gives deeper meaning to our lives. A composer speaks to us through his music. But what does he say? Do we understand it? Do we understand it well? So let’s play Beethoven, and let’s play with Beethoven! The musicians play with notes and phrases, the host plays with words and an audience happy to participate in the one-off experience of these concerts and to become – by making requests online – co-compilers of the programme. Let’s discover young musicians and marvel at the playful flashes of inspiration of renowned artists in these concerts. Let’s listen to what the orchestra can do, and see how smaller chamber ensembles prepare for concerts. Let’s leave room for chance, for secrets and for the mystic power of music. But let’s also try to unravel the secrets of the craft, to understand coded messages. Let’s anticipate together what an evening with Beethoven can bring. Let’s improvise in the magic of the moment! Perhaps a new genre of concert will be born.
This evening is about the heroic Beethoven, focusing on his middle creative period. It looks at how heroic gestures pervade his works – from the themes of Fidelio to the questions raised by Eroica (in both the piano variations and symphonic work) and the Kreutzer Sonata.”
