We may ask the question of how music can be in anything other than real time. The response, however, may vary greatly and depend on the extent to which the performer is prepared – and daring enough – to take on the composition of a piece in real time. Judging by the result, a listener with a good ear and an open heart can precisely feel what processes have taken place in the composer and the intentions the musician has in their approach to the creation of the piece. If the intention is pure and ...sincere, the listener will be the recipient of a wonderful gift – as when listening to the music of István Grencsó for over three decades now. The members of the Real Time Music Collective share this spirit and their yearning to fly freely creates a link which forms the backbone to their collective free improvisation. Even though they originate from different cultures, the musical heritage which they all carry creates the foundations and the dialectics of an instrumental dialogue. Grencsó has also been very busy in the studio in recent years, releasing the albums Szőttes fekete-fehérben in 2009 and Local Time in 2011, both of which received enthusiastic reviews. However, it was the latest Jazzforum Budapest festival which steered his career in a new direction, when he met the German bass clarinetist Rudi Mahall, who has performed with a plethora of partners including Lee Konitz, Aki Takase, Ed Schuller, Ray Anderson and Kenny Wheeler. Feeling that they still have plenty to say to each other as well as to their audience, they now share this with visitors to the Jazz Workshop event. Presented by: Palace of Arts
