István Mátyás was born in Zalaegerszeg in 1980, where he learned to play piano and organ. He was schooled in music in Szombathely, before completing his piano and organ studies in Vienna. In 2000, he placed third in the international piano competition held by Steinway & Sons in Vienna, later winning the 4th Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition held in Kaliningrad. In addition to performing throughout Europe, he recorded the organ works of Hans Gál in 2007 and has worked as répétiteur at the Graz Academy of Music since 2008. He gave a hugely successful concert in the Palace of Arts with the Wiener Sängerknaben in 2008.
The organ works to be played alongside the Handel and Philipp Emanuel Bach Concertos will explore the German branch of the genre with a representative selection from Bach and the great Romantics.
The Budapest Strings are respected members of the Hungarian and international musical elite. The ensemble received Hungary's top accolade for chamber music in 2001 when it was awarded the Bartók-Pásztori Prize. This was followed by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Arts Club Award in 2007 and the Artisjus Award in 2008.
