Contemporary writers at the Palace of Arts

Starting from 2012, the Palace of Arts would like to become the representative centre of Hungarian and Central and Eastern European literature. Accordingly, it is expanding its repertoire to include contemporary literature. Plans include regularly inviting the most exciting, most famous authors of world literature. However, in its first season MÜPA has set the target of creating a new type of literary evening, previously unknown in Hungary. The thematic series, held on a monthly basis and built around a circle of six ‘recalcitrant’, anomalous, yet essential authors of contemporary Hungarian literature, brings the best Hungarian authors closer to readers by involving surprise guests invited by the writers, recurring actors, and related arts (music, film screenings, theatrical scenes, etc.). A host of recurring elements and unique solutions that vary from evening to evening, improvisation and creative ideas go to show that contemporary literature evenings really can be both of a high standard and entertainingly audience-friendly.
